Research: Branding, Coca Cola and Colour
Coca Cola Branding
In looking at branding for colours and brand identity a key example would be the Coca Cola campaigns. Their branding as a co-orperation is associated with happiness. Cola = smiles. In all their advertising that is the main point which stands out as the emotion they want to link their brand with.
With our work with the Umbrella Club we want to use the colour blue in a similar way in which Coke use red. The colour red is culturally signified with Coca Cola as a brand to the extent that Christmas is now also associated with the colour red.
Although for the Umbrella club we want to create a video invitation less so an advert, the importance of happiness being linked with the blue Umbrella is the aspect we feel is very important in creating the right product for the Dome.
Christmas
Coca Cola's christmas champaigns are also very effective in creating brand values.

The Umbrella Club
In our production we want to use the blue umbrella as the signifier for happiness in relation to the dome and for the families and children, so they associate coming to the dome for the umbrella club with happy memories to be created.

Research: The Dome and The Umbrella Club
What is the Umbrella Club?
Umbrella Club is run by the Brighton Dome it is a membership club for children/ young people with
life-limiting conditions and their siblings and carers. In February 2014 the Brighton Dome began the process of creating Pippa Smith's
vision of a scheme which ensures that life-limited children and their families and carers
retain access to the arts. Umbrella Club provides free and discounted tickets to Brighton Dome family shows and workshops.
Umbrella Club also streams of selected performances of the theatre shows and provides other 'members only' treats. The clubs aim is to provide these families with access to the arts that they might not be able to get elsewhere because of health reasons restricting the children/families/carers etc.
WHO FUNDS UMBRELLA CLUB?
The pilot project was funded by the American Express Foundation. In Autumn 2014 Umbrella Club was awarded a grant from SPARK’s Life More Ordinary Grant Scheme from the Short Breaks for Disabled Young People fund. Umbrella Club is also supported by The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust and Sobell Foundation. In addition, The American Express Foundation has been continuing to help make Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival events more accessible for all. Support is also provided by The Montefiore Hospital, Gatwick Airport and Unlimited Impact.
From the clubs WINTER 14 / SPRING 15 REPORT a parent member of the club said "We find there's little few options of things to do and places to take our
son. [Umbrella Club]
caters for his needs, he's
well looked after and
the shows aren't too
long. They cater for a
child with special needs
and he enjoys the shows
because of that."
